How to earn Pokecoins:

Most Pokemon Go players don’t know this, but you can earn Pokecoins simply by playing the game. This is done through combat, or taking over an opposing team gym. In order to join the fray, you’ll need to be at least level 5 to join one of the three teams in Pokemon Go.

Whether you attack and occupy a gym, or simply add a Pokemon to the gym you can earn Pokecoins. When traveling in your map view, you may notice a gym that’s controlled by your team. Tap on the gym to see what level it is, and if there’s room for you to add a Pokemon.

Doing so will activate a timer, and once the timer resets you’ll be awarded a Defender bonus. In order to see the timer, tap on your Shop screen and refer to the upper right hand corner. You can control up to 10 gyms at a time, each one awarding you 10 Pokecoins and 500 Stardust.

For this simple reason it’s important to discover which Pokemon are the best gym defenders. Selecting the best defender Pokemon gives you the best chance at earning Pokecoins that can be spent on other upgrades.

Although this part of our Pokecoin guide can earn you free Pokecoins, it can be slow going. Most gyms at this stage of the game exchange hands several times. As time goes on the game may evolve into powerhouse teams that control more gyms, depending on where you live.

How to Buy Pokecoins:

This is done through the Shop menu, and if you are serious about spending money on Pokemon Go, it’s best to do it in bulk. The more you are willing to spend, the more Pokecoins you get. For example it’s 100 Pokecoins for $1, 550 Pokecoins for $5, 1,200 Pokecoins for $10, 2,500 Pokecoins for $20, 5,200 Pokecoins for $40, or a staggering 14,500 Pokecoins for $100.

Although it’s unrealistic to expect most players to plunk down 40 or 100 dollars on a mobile game, the 10 dollar price break is an excellent value. It’s more than enough to get you backpack upgrades or a Lucky Egg when you need it.

If you have spent money on Pokecoins, try to resist the urge to spend money on things that you can earn from Pokestops. Pokeballs are a bad way to spend your Pokecoins in other words, get out of the house and go for a walk instead.
